The breath-taking Tyrolean mountain ranges, with their outstanding peaks, lushly forested slopes and gently alps all connected by a network of hiking trails which open up all of this to the devoted hiker. Some peaks can be easily reached thanks to cable cars and well-made, broadly laid paths make them accessible even for unpractised hikers. Others remain a challenge even for the most experienced climbers. In the walking and hiking guides available there is a suitable route to meet the demands of every kind of hiker or climber. It is possible to hike through the Tyrol from refuge hut to refuge hut without once leaving the mountains: for example on the so-called Tiroler Adlerweg or Eagle Path which follows a route of 1480km in 126 stages right through the whole province. Set off on the most attractive hiking route around the Patscherkofel almost from the front door of the Tivoli Hotel Innsbruck.

Mountain biking or simply cycling can be enjoyed in the Tyrol thanks to a well-planned cycle path network. This takes you across forest roads, alpine pastures and the occasional elevation but also on flat runs. Just a few minutes from the Tivoli Hotel Innsbruck, for example, you can join the cycle path along the Inn up into the higher country of the Oberland. And you can then return in the comfort of the train together with your bike. Around Innsbruck both the mountains to the south as well as the Northern Chain have a range of mountain bike routes. The Nordpark is a paradise for down hill riders with numerous single trails, which go from the Seegrube across the Hungerburg and down into the town itself, covering 5.4 km and a height difference of over 1330 meters and offering a number of challenges on the way!

The traditional destination for any hike or bike tour is the typical Tyrolean mountain refuge or hut. They are a magnet for hikers, offering home-made Tyrolean meals and refreshing beverages. More often than not a long hike up is rewarded with a breath-taking mountain vista or view down to the idyllic alp landscape. On www.oeav.at (in German only) hikers will find information on the ideal refuge to suit their needs and abilities – as the peak experience of a gentle family hike with a playground and petting zoo or a stop-off as part of a more challenging mountain tour up to a 300 metre summit. Starting out from Tivoli Hotel Innsbruck at least a dozen alpine huts serving food and beverages can be easily reached, e.g. at 1067 m (the Arzler Alm) or at 2.610 m (the Glungezer Hütte).

Those visitors interested in history will be fascinated by the middle-aged towns of Hall, Rattenberg and Kufstein as well as Sterzing and Brixen/Bressanone in the South Tyrol. The "Höfemuseum" or Museum of Farming in Kramsach allows you glimpses into the agricultural way of life over the past 500 years – tangible history! Easily reachable after just a 10 minute drive from Tivoli Hotel Innsbruck you will find the Castle "Burg Hasegg " in Hall with its Münzturm or minting tower . Here, where once upon a time the very first coins which became Europe's first currency were minted, valid currency is still minted today from bronze, silver or gold – and visitors can purchase a souvenir of real and lasting value. Interestingly, the word "dollar" originated from the Hall word "Thaler". The castle "Schloss Tratzberg " and the town of Schwaz with its silver mine are both closely interwoven with the Tyrol's history as a financial centre in the Middle Ages and are worth visiting.
